Sonoma County Booking Records

Sonoma County 72 hour booking records are available through two different online tools run by the sheriff's office. The Sonoma County Sheriff has both an inmate search database and a separate arrest log. These tools give the public solid access to booking data from the county jail in Santa Rosa. California law requires that booking records be shared freely, and Sonoma County delivers on this with two distinct search options. This page covers how to use both tools, what the law says about public access, and how to request records from Sonoma County if you need more than what the online tools show.

Sonoma County Inmate Search

The first tool is the Sonoma County inmate search database. This lets you look up people who are currently held at the Sonoma County jail. You search by name and the results show booking information, charges, bail amounts, and custody status. The tool is free. It does not require an account or login. The data comes straight from the jail management system and updates as new bookings happen throughout the day.

The inmate search tool is most useful when you want to know if someone is in jail right now. It shows current inmates. Once a person is released, they drop off this system. So if you are looking for recent booking data within the past 72 hours, this tool is a good starting point. But if the person has already been released, you may not find them here.

The Sonoma County Sheriff's inmate search tool provides real-time data from the county jail for public 72 hour booking lookups.

Sonoma County Arrest Log

The second tool is the Sonoma County arrest log. This is different from the inmate search. The arrest log shows recent arrests made by the sheriff's office, including brief details about each incident. It covers the date, time, location, and charges. The arrest log gives you a broader view of what is happening in Sonoma County beyond just who is sitting in jail at this moment.

The arrest log is updated regularly. It covers arrests made by the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office specifically. Arrests by city police departments like Santa Rosa PD may not appear on this log, though those bookings still go through the county jail. If you want data from city police arrests, the inmate search tool is the better option since it covers all bookings regardless of which agency made the arrest.

The Sonoma County Sheriff's arrest log gives a public view of recent arrests in the county, separate from the inmate search tool.

Note: The arrest log covers sheriff's office arrests. City police arrests may only appear in the inmate search database, not the arrest log.

Sonoma Booking Records Law

California Government Code 7923.610 requires all booking records to be public in Sonoma County. The law lists what must be disclosed: the full name of the person, date of birth, physical description, time and date of arrest, time and date of booking, arrest location, bail amount, charges, and holding facility. Sonoma County follows this law through its two online tools and also accepts formal records requests for additional data.

The California Public Records Act gives you the right to ask for these records. You do not have to explain why you want them. The Sonoma County Sheriff must respond to requests within 10 days. If they need more time, they have to tell you. Denial of a booking records request is rare because the law is so specific about what must be shared.

People arrested in Sonoma County have protections during booking too. Under Penal Code 851.5, every person gets at least three free calls within three hours of being booked. The calls go to a lawyer, bail agent, or family. Sonoma County must honor this at every booking.
