The CrimeGraphics system for Inyo County is free to use. No account is needed. Just go to the site and click the booking tab. The system pulls up records from the Inyo County jail in Independence. Because the county is small, the volume of bookings is low compared to bigger California counties. That can actually make it easier to find what you need. There are fewer records to sort through, and the booking log is manageable in size.
Inyo County does not run a massive detention facility. The jail in Independence holds a limited number of inmates. When the facility fills up, transfers may happen to other county jails. But the booking record itself stays with Inyo County. That means even if someone gets moved, you still look up their booking data through the Inyo County sheriff's tools.

The state database serves as a backup when local Inyo County tools do not show a person. If someone was booked in Inyo County and later moved to state custody, the CDCR locator picks up where the county system stops. This is useful for tracking cases that went beyond the booking stage.
Inyo County Booking Law
California Government Code 7923.610 requires every law enforcement agency in the state to release booking information to the public. Inyo County must follow this law. The statute lists what must be shared: full name, date of birth, physical description, time and date of arrest, time and date of booking, location of arrest, all charges, bail amount, and the facility where the person is held. The Inyo County Sheriff cannot refuse to give out this data.
The 72 hour booking rule means that recent booking data should be available to the public within three days. In practice, the CrimeGraphics portal for Inyo County updates as bookings happen. So you can often see new records within hours, not days. California law sets the ceiling at 72 hours, but many counties post data faster than that. Inyo County is one of them.
People arrested in Inyo County have rights under Penal Code 851.5 too. This gives each arrested person at least three phone calls within three hours of booking. The calls are free. They can go to an attorney, bail agent, or family member. This right applies at the Inyo County jail just like any other facility in the state.
Note: Inyo County's small population means booking volume is low, but the legal requirements for public access are the same as in Los Angeles or San Francisco.
